Global Airlines Denies Plans to Become ACMI Operator Amid Airbus A380 Debut

Global Airlines has firmly denied plans to operate as an ACMI carrier using Airbus A380 aircraft, following its first passenger flight operated by Hi Fly on its behalf. The UK-based airline, which has yet to secure its air operator’s certificate (AOC), reaffirmed on June 3, 2025, its ambition to become a scheduled carrier in the future, despite acknowledging numerous challenges ahead.

The airline’s initial Airbus A380 transatlantic flight between Glasgow Airport and New York JFK sparked speculation about a possible strategic shift toward ACMI operations. This followed a report suggesting Kingdom Holdings Company, a Saudi Arabian investment group, is in talks to acquire a stake in Global Airlines, potentially influencing the airline’s direction. However, Global Airlines rejected any change in strategy, emphasizing that ACMI operations with Hi Fly have always been part of discussions but remain secondary to its core vision.

Despite significant interest within the aviation community, the flight carried just 95 passengers, many influencers and aviation journalists, with mixed reviews—particularly critical in premium cabins. Global Airlines explained the flight was a test rather than a commercial launch, with no marketing and deliberately limited bookings, focusing on premium service trials.

The airline acknowledged the challenges faced during its first A380 flight and apologized for any passenger dissatisfaction. Richard Stephenson, Global Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted ongoing efforts to improve services, noting the successful operation of their first owned A380 across the Atlantic and promising more flights ahead.
