Another round of freezing rain is set to hit the Ottawa-Gatineau region late Wednesday, though Environment Canada assures it won’t be as severe as last weekend’s devastating ice storm.
Freezing rain warnings were issued Tuesday for western Quebec and most of eastern Ontario, excluding Prince Edward County. Snow and ice pellets will begin in Kingston early Wednesday afternoon, reaching Ottawa later, followed by freezing rain before transitioning to rain by Thursday morning as temperatures rise.
Unlike the prolonged ice storm that blanketed parts of Ontario for 35 hours last weekend, this bout of freezing rain will be shorter. However, western Quebec could see several hours of icy conditions.
Meanwhile, eastern Ontario will face significant rainfall, with Kingston and Belleville expecting 20 to 40 millimeters between Wednesday and Thursday morning. Thunderstorms could add to the total. Ottawa may see 15 to 25 millimeters of rain before the storm clears, with temperatures climbing to 17°C on Thursday and 11°C on Friday.
