Freezing Rain Forces School Closures Across Prince Edward Island

All Public Schools Branch and French-language board schools on Prince Edward Island were closed Monday due to a forecast of freezing rain.

Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for all three counties, predicting icy conditions lasting about four hours, with accumulations of up to 5 mm.

The University of Prince Edward Island delayed its opening until noon, while all Holland College locations pushed their start time to 12:30 p.m.

CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin reported that snow would transition to ice pellets and freezing rain in the morning before shifting to rain around 11 a.m., with additional rainfall expected later Monday and into Tuesday.
