Paul Bissonnette, former NHL player turned hockey broadcaster, was assaulted during an altercation at a restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Sunday. The incident unfolded when Bissonnette intervened in a dispute between six men and the management at Houston’s restaurant, according to Scottsdale Police.
The police confirmed that Bissonnette was attacked both inside and outside the restaurant. Emergency medical services evaluated his injuries on-site before transporting him to a hospital for further care. Six suspects were arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct.
Bissonnette later shared details of the encounter via social media and his “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast. He explained that the altercation escalated when he stepped in to defend the restaurant staff from harassment. The 39-year-old described being taken to the ground, kicked multiple times, and losing his shoes and shirt during the brawl. Despite the physical altercation, Bissonnette thanked emergency responders and fans for their support, stating he was shaken but recovering.
Bissonnette played in the NHL from 2008 to 2014, representing the Pittsburgh Penguins and Phoenix Coyotes. Today, he’s widely recognized for his role as a co-host on the popular hockey podcast “Spittin’ Chiclets.”
