FG Approves N452bn for 14 Major Road Projects, FCT Water Initiatives
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved contracts worth N452 billion for 14 key road projects across multiple states and critical water supply projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This move is part of the Renewed Hope Administration’s strategy to review and complete inherited infrastructure initiatives, with a focus on nationwide connectivity and improved road networks.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, disclosed the details on Tuesday after the 23rd Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. He emphasized that these projects will significantly boost transportation infrastructure and expedite socio-economic development in the affected regions.
Breakdown of Approved Road Projects
Umahi provided a state-by-state overview of the newly approved projects, outlining their scope, contractors, and budget allocations:
Niger State: The Agaie–Katcha–Baro Road project was awarded to Messrs GR Building Construction Limited at a contract sum of N22 billion. This road is expected to improve access and facilitate commerce in the region.
Cross River State: Samatech Construction Limited will handle the rehabilitation of the Odukpani Junction and the central section of the Calabar–Ikom–Ogoja Road for N26.33 billion. This project will restore a critical economic corridor linking communities in the state.
Ogun State: Two key projects were approved. Messrs HM Construction Limited will execute the Ajaokuta–Ajibo/Iyana-Mosa Road for N10.89 billion, while Aretha Construction Limited secured a N13 billion contract for the Ijebu–Ibutita–Ebe Road.
Anambra State: The Inoma–Iyaka–Abaji section of the Ibaji–Odulu–Ajibu Road will be constructed by Niger Cat for N9.33 billion.
Abia and Akwa Ibom States: Messrs Heartland Reckon Construction Company will handle the Umuahia–Ituano–Ikot Ekpene Road at a cost of N14.37 billion.

Adamawa State: WisChina Worldwide Engineering Limited will execute the Yola–Fufure Road for N11.81 billion, enhancing connectivity in the northeast.
Taraba State: Messer Mode Limited was awarded a N7.68 billion contract for the Amido Road.
Enugu and Ebonyi States: Arab Contractors will handle the Nkomoro–Isu Road at a cost of N14.49 billion, improving road access between the two states.
Lagos State: The Phase 1 of the Ikorodu–Shagamu Road, which connects to the Lagos–Ibadan Road network, will be constructed by Arab Contractors for N27.59 billion.
Yobe State: The Gashua–Bayamari Road (Section 2) will be built by Messrs Wick Rock for N9.68 billion.
Lagos–Ibadan Road Completion Update
Umahi also addressed the ongoing Lagos–Ibadan Road project. He revealed that Messrs Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) requires an additional N30 billion to complete an 8.55km section on the Lagos-bound side. This portion includes two phases, with Julius Berger handling one section while RCC is responsible for the Ibadan-bound stretch, which still requires about N4 billion for completion.
“The total contract value of the remaining work is around N30 billion, even though the overall project cost stands at N230 billion,” Umahi explained.
FCT Water Projects
In addition to road projects, the Federal Executive Council approved contracts for water supply projects aimed at addressing the water shortage in the FCT. This initiative will provide residents with reliable access to clean water and improve living conditions in the capital city.
Conclusion
The Federal Government’s approval of these infrastructure projects underscores its commitment to revitalizing and expanding Nigeria’s road networks and essential services. These investments will enhance regional connectivity, facilitate economic growth, and improve the quality of life for millions of Nigerians.
