England Dominates Belgium in Women’s Nations League, Wiegman Senses Progress Ahead of Euro 2025

The Lionesses are hitting their stride as they gear up for Euro 2025, with manager Sarina Wiegman acknowledging that “something is happening” within the team. A dominant 5-0 victory over Belgium on Friday night at Ashton Gate added to their momentum, marking back-to-back wins in the Women’s Nations League after their February triumph over world champions Spain.

England’s performance showcased confidence, skill, and depth, with goals from defenders Lucy Bronze and Millie Bright in the first half, followed by substitutes Aggie Beever-Jones and Jess Park, and Keira Walsh’s first-ever senior international goal. This impressive display helped secure England’s top spot in Group A3, further highlighting their improving form as the tournament progresses.

Wiegman is careful not to get carried away, however, stressing the importance of continued development. “We’re getting closer to how we want to play against different opponents,” she said. “We know what we want to improve and are working on it every day.”

While Belgium fielded a weakened squad due to injuries, England’s dominance was undeniable. Walsh, who was elated to score her first senior international goal, described the team’s performance as “free-flowing,” and her teammates, including Beever-Jones, shared in the joy of their first goals for England.

With three months to go before their Euros opener against France on July 5, England’s current form bodes well as they continue to build towards the competition.
