Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of a “potent” ice storm set to impact Eastern Ontario from late Friday into early next week. Forecasters predict between 5 and 15 millimeters of freezing rain in most areas, with some locations possibly exceeding 20 millimeters.
The heaviest ice accumulation is expected between Parry Sound and Kingston, though exact amounts remain uncertain. As ice builds up, travel conditions could become hazardous, and tree damage may lead to power outages. Emergency officials urge residents to prepare accordingly.
Weather conditions are expected to improve by Monday. Ottawa’s forecast includes snow Friday night, followed by freezing rain or snow on Sunday, with temperatures hovering around freezing.
