Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has achieved 40% completion of its nol system upgrade, marking a significant milestone in transforming public transport. The shift from a card-based ticketing system to an account-based ticketing (ABT) platform will enhance travel efficiency, enabling seamless, cashless payments across Dubai’s transport network. This digital transition aligns with global fintech advancements, ensuring a smarter and more convenient commuting experience.
Set for completion by Q3 2026, the project will modernize payment methods, allowing users to manage travel accounts digitally. With a budget of Dh550 million, the upgrade is being implemented in three phases. Phase one focuses on integrating digital accounts for easier fare management, while phase two introduces advanced nol cards with enhanced security. The final phase will fully transition to the ABT system, enabling frictionless payments for metro, buses, trams, marine transport, and shared mobility services.
Since its launch in 2009 alongside the Dubai Metro, the nol system has evolved to improve public transport accessibility. RTA continues to expand its services, offering student discounts through ISIC, nol Terhaal cards for tourists, and nol payments for e-scooters and ride-hailing services. This upgrade solidifies Dubai’s position as a global leader in smart mobility, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and a cashless travel experience.
