On Thursday morning, severe landslides struck rural areas in southwestern China’s Guizhou province, trapping 21 people across two locations. Qingyang village, a remote mountainous community, was hit first, where eight households and 19 individuals remain trapped. Another landslide affected nearby Changshi township.
Rescue efforts are underway with over 180 personnel deployed, including 120 from the People’s Liberation Army in Guizhou and local militia members, alongside 60 military police, according to China’s state broadcaster CCTV. Continuous rainfall overnight is believed to have triggered the landslides.
Drone footage reveals a vast swath of brown earth cutting through the lush green hills, highlighting the scale of the destruction in the area.
