Dallas Stars Stun Oilers With Five-Goal Third Period in Game 1 Comeback Victory

The Dallas Stars launched a dramatic third-period comeback to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 6-3 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday night. Trailing by two goals early in the final period, the Stars erupted with five unanswered goals—three on the power play—in a stunning turnaround.

Miro Heiskanen, Mikael Granlund, and Matt Duchene led the rally with power-play goals within just over five minutes. Tyler Seguin added two goals and an assist, while Esa Lindell sealed the win with a full-length empty-netter. Jake Oettinger made 24 saves in the Stars’ seventh straight home win this postseason.

Coach Pete DeBoer credited the power play, which had struggled in last year’s West final loss to Edmonton. Dallas had gone 0-for-14 with the man advantage in that series but capitalized quickly this time.

Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins contributed offensively for the Oilers, but goalie Stuart Skinner allowed five goals on 27 shots. Edmonton hadn’t played since eliminating Vegas last week, and now trails in a series rematch they won in 2024.

Game 2 is set for Friday night in Dallas.
