Dalhousie University is bringing a touch of optimism and charm to its curriculum with a new course inspired by the hit Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. Set to launch in the winter term as KINE 4240: Coaching and Life: Lessons from Ted Lasso, the course is the brainchild of Dr. Lori Dithurbide, assistant professor of kinesiology.
The class will use the popular series to dive into complex themes such as leadership, social justice, coaching philosophies, and sport psychology. Far from a casual watch party, the fourth-year course will emphasize critical thinking, self-reflection, and academic depth.
“‘Ted Lasso’ has emerged as more than just a feel-good sitcom — it’s a masterclass in coaching, teamwork and human connection,” the university said in its official statement. The course is open to senior students across disciplines and aims to make education more relatable without compromising academic integrity.
Dr. Dithurbide credits the show’s relevance to modern coaching and leadership ideals as the foundation for its integration into university-level learning, emphasizing its value beyond the screen.
