The RCMP, along with the Niagara-on-the-Lake Border Integrity Unit and Ontario Provincial Police, responded swiftly, arresting the individual under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
The unnamed individual was taken to the Canada Border Services Agency at the Peace Bridge port of entry, deemed ineligible for entry, and sent back to the U.S. the same day.
This incident highlights the continued vigilance of border authorities, with the RCMP maintaining a 24/7 presence at the Fort Erie railway bridge. Recent efforts have seen several individuals apprehended while attempting illegal entry, all of whom were promptly returned to the U.S.
