Manitoba’s wildlife branch has revoked the polar bear viewing permits of Lazy Bear Expeditions, owned by Wally Daudrich, a candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party leadership. The decision reduces the number of tundra vehicles in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area from 20 to 18, aiming to address the declining Western Hudson Bay polar bear population, which has seen a significant decrease over recent decades.
Daudrich criticized the move, alleging political motives and highlighting potential financial losses for his company. Natural Resources Minister Ian Bushie denied these allegations, emphasizing the decision’s basis in conservation priorities.
