Conan O’Brien and Oscar, the iconic Academy Award statuette, are redefining “for better or worse” in a new Oscars promo. The clip, released Thursday, playfully depicts the late-night host’s “marriage” to the golden statue hitting a rough patch ahead of his hosting debut at the 2025 Academy Awards.
In the promo, O’Brien vents his frustrations in a tense kitchen scene, lamenting that Oscar never laughs at his jokes anymore. “Other award statues think I’m funny!” he complains. He further grumbles about Oscar’s excessive use of power outlets, disdain for their kitchen design, and the monotony of eating leftovers.
His breaking point comes when Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese calls—only to ask for Oscar instead. The promo, brimming with O’Brien’s signature humor, is the first teaser leading up to the prestigious event.
The 2025 Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, airing live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
