Toronto – Closing arguments are set to take place today in the sexual assault trial of Canadian musician Jacob Hoggard. Both Hoggard and his accuser have presented conflicting testimonies regarding a June 2016 encounter in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.
The incident occurred in a hotel room following a Hedley concert and an after-party bonfire. While both parties acknowledge a sexual encounter took place, the Crown alleges that the interaction was non-consensual. The complainant has accused Hoggard of rape, choking, hitting, and using degrading language, while Hoggard maintains that the encounter was a consensual one-night stand following a night of mutual flirtation.
The defense is set to conclude its case before the jury hears closing statements from both sides later today.
