Grammy-winning R&B artist Chris Brown has been charged in the U.K. with causing grievous bodily harm following an alleged assault on music producer Abe Diaw at a London nightclub in 2023. Prosecutors confirmed that Brown, 36, was arrested Thursday at a hotel in Manchester.
The alleged incident occurred at the upscale Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district during Brown’s 2023 U.K. tour. Diaw claims he was hospitalized after what he described as an unprovoked attack by the singer.
Brown is due to appear in Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday. His representatives have not yet commented on the charges.
Known for hits like “Run It,” “Kiss Kiss” and “Without You,” Brown rose to fame in 2005 and has since won two Grammy Awards, including one earlier this year for “11:11 (Deluxe).” He is set to begin an international tour next month alongside Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, and Bryson Tiller, starting in Europe before heading to North America in July.
