Carly Rae Jepsen is set to co-write the music for a Broadway adaptation of the teen rom-com “10 Things I Hate About You.” The singer-songwriter from Mission, B.C., will team up with Ethan Gruska for the score, while Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang will write the book for the stage production.
The musical will be produced by Mike Bosner and is based on the 1999 cult classic film by Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith, which itself was a modern twist on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.”
The original movie was instrumental in launching the careers of Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, cementing its legacy in pop culture.
This marks a return to the Broadway stage for Jepsen, who previously starred in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” in 2014.
While the premiere date is yet to be announced, Tony Award-winner Christopher Wheeldon is already confirmed to direct.
