Canadian music icon Anne Murray is making headlines again with a heartfelt act of generosity. The beloved singer has donated the bedazzled Team Canada hockey jersey she wore while receiving her Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Juno Awards. This unique, rhinestone-covered jersey is now up for auction, with all proceeds going to the IWK Health Centre in Halifax.
Murray shared with CTV News Atlantic that the decision to donate the jersey was clear. “I tried to think of what would be the best thing to do with it, and of course IWK came to mind right away,” she said.
The red-and-white jersey became a standout moment at the March Junos, where Murray made a rare public appearance to accept her 26th Juno Award. Reflecting on her career, she highlighted her deep connection to Canada, saying she “just couldn’t” relocate to New York or Los Angeles despite early pressures, describing Canada as her safe haven and “light at the end of the tunnel.”
The glittering jersey came together spontaneously when Murray’s friend suggested she wear a hockey jersey to the event. Encouraged by her daughter Dawn to add some sparkle, the Vancouver-based team helped create the stunning look that captivated audiences.
Murray hopes the jersey’s impact will now extend beyond the stage. “What’s more heart-wrenching than a sick child? I didn’t even hesitate when we talked about donating it. I’m really happy that’s where it’s going,” she said.
The auction runs through June 12, with 100% of the proceeds supporting the IWK Health Centre, which provides specialized care for women, children, youth, and families across the Maritime provinces.
