At the 2023 Cup of China in Chongqing, two-time European champions Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri claimed the lead in the rhythm dance with 84.84 points. Canadian ice dancers Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha delivered an impressive performance to secure second place with 81.53 points, while Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko of the U.S. followed closely in third with 79.22. Lajoie and Lagha had previously led after the rhythm dance at the same venue last year, scoring 82.02 points.
Earlier this season, the Canadian duo also performed strongly at Skate Canada in Halifax, finishing second in the rhythm dance despite Lagha’s fall, and went on to earn a silver medal with 199.90 points. Their consistency in the rhythm dance program has solidified their reputation as top contenders in international ice dance events.
In women’s singles, American skater Amber Glenn delivered a strong comeback performance after an early error, finishing with 70.84 points, just behind Japan’s Mone Chiba, who scored 70.86. Glenn, who recently captured her first Grand Prix title in France, hopes to qualify for the Grand Prix Final next month in Grenoble, France. Canadian Madeline Schizas, who had a solid Skate Canada showing, placed eighth with 61.10 points after a challenging program.
As the competition progresses, fans can expect exciting performances in the free dance and other events as athletes push for podium finishes and potential Grand Prix Final qualifications
