Canadian track cyclists Dylan Bibic and Sarah Van Dam are closing in on potential titles as they compete at the final stop of the UCI Track Champions League season this week in London.
Dylan Bibic, the 21-year-old cyclist from Mississauga, Ontario, currently leads the men’s endurance standings with a nine-point edge over Denmark’s Tobias Aagaard Hansen. Bibic, last season’s overall champion, has been in stellar form, extending his lead last week in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, where he claimed victory in the elimination race and secured second place in the scratch race.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Sarah Van Dam from Victoria, British Columbia, sits in second place in the women’s endurance standings, trailing American cyclist Katie Archibald by 27 points. Van Dam is pursuing her first league title and recently claimed a standout win in the scratch race in Apeldoorn.
Bibic, who made history in 2022 as Canada’s first men’s world champion in a track endurance event, has had a standout season. He earned silver at the 2023 World Championships in Scotland and secured multiple Pan American Track Cycling medals. This year, he also celebrated victories on the UCI Nations Cup circuit and made his Olympic debut in Paris.
Van Dam, a rising star in Canadian cycling, is transitioning to balance road and track racing. A three-time world championship competitor, she earned six medals at the Pan American Championships in 2022 and debuted at the Olympics earlier this year. Van Dam plans to train with a German-based team in 2025 as she sets her sights on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, where she hopes to secure a medal for Canada.
With both riders demonstrating exceptional form and resilience, the London finale promises high-stakes competition as they aim to bring home prestigious titles for Canada.
