The Canadian automotive sector is bracing for disruption following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 25% tariff on imported vehicles, a move expected to drive up prices and affect manufacturing operations across North America.
Among the impacted automakers, Honda is evaluating the consequences for its Canadian operations. Ken Chiu, a spokesperson for Honda Canada, stated that while the company is still assessing the full impact, it remains committed to protecting its 4,000 manufacturing associates and adapting to the changes.
Honda, which manufactures vehicles in Alliston, Ontario, relies on cross-border trade for parts and materials. The tariffs, set to take effect on April 3, are part of the Trump administration’s broader trade policies, which have already placed duties on steel, aluminum, and other imports from Canada, Mexico, and China.
