Canada’s Beach Volleyball Duo Eyes Olympic Gold After Historic Silver in Paris

Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson made history with a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics in women’s beach volleyball—the nation’s first in the sport. Under the Eiffel Tower, the duo fought bravely against Brazil’s Ana Patricia Ramos and Eduarda “Duda” Lisboa, pushing the match to three sets before falling just short of gold.

Entering the Games as underdogs with only 18 tournaments together, the Toronto-born pair shocked many by advancing from the “lucky loser” round all the way to the final. After a narrow 26-24 loss in the first set, they roared back with a 21-12 win, before Brazil edged them 15-13 in the decider.

Despite the heartbreak, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson have turned their sights to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Now training in California, they aim to solidify their place among the world’s elite. Their journey continues this week at the Beach Pro Tour’s Elite16 stop in Ostrava, Czech Republic, ahead of the World Championship in Australia this November.

Determined and aligned in purpose, both athletes say their partnership is built on trust, shared goals, and growing camaraderie. With momentum and unity on their side, they believe a golden ending awaits in L.A.
