The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), representing approximately 55,000 Canada Post employees, has announced a nationwide overtime ban as contract talks continue. Members are instructed to refuse work beyond eight hours per day and 40 hours per week.
This action coincides with CUPW entering a legal strike position as of midnight. The move follows an evening meeting requested by the union between Canada Post and its negotiators.
CUPW stated the overtime ban will commence unless Canada Post agrees to a two-week “truce” before midnight, a proposal the corporation had previously declined. The union is still reviewing the latest offer made on Wednesday and aims to limit public disruptions and lost workdays for its members.
