In a historic breakthrough for clean aviation, Vancouver-based Canadian Advanced Air Mobility and Unither Bioélectronique have completed the world’s first piloted hydrogen-powered helicopter flight. Conducted at Bromont Airport in Quebec under a special Transport Canada permit, the three-minute test relied on hydrogen fuel cells for 90% of its power.
The successful manned flight, piloted by Ric Webb, marks a global first in zero-emission rotary aviation and highlights Canada’s leadership in sustainable air mobility. The team now sets its sights on expanding flight range, with commercial deployment targeted for 2028.
