As summer heats up, The Calgary Airport Authority is gearing up for a busy season at YYC Calgary International Airport. Starting with the G7 Summit and continuing through the 2025 Rotary International Convention and the Calgary Stampede, the airport expects to handle an estimated 5.8 million passengers this season—more than three times the daily capacity of the Saddledome.
Chris Miles, COO of The Calgary Airport Authority, emphasizes the importance of smooth travel during peak events, aiming to keep journeys seamless for all passengers. With daily passenger numbers projected at 67,000, YYC encourages travelers to arrive early—two hours before domestic and three hours prior to international flights—to allow sufficient time for parking, check-in, and security.
Travelers to the U.S. should note that security and customs access for general boarding passengers is limited to two hours before departure during busy periods. The airport also recommends booking parking online in advance and highlights accessibility services available for all passengers.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) processed nearly 3.3 million travelers at YYC last year and advises visitors to have proper documentation, declare goods purchased abroad, and stay informed about restricted items, including the strict ban on cannabis crossing borders. CBSA Director Lisa White urges travelers to use tools like the CBSA Advance Declaration to expedite processing.
Neil Parry, Acting President and CEO of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), assures passengers that security screening teams are prepared to handle the summer influx, with plans to introduce CT X-ray technology across all screening lines later this year. YYC and CATSA remain committed to delivering secure and efficient passenger experiences this summer.
