Bukki Solanke Foundation Launched in Winnipeg: A Legacy of Empowerment and Community Integration

The Bukki Solanke Foundation (BSF) was officially launched at Saint Boniface Cathedral, marking a milestone in the journey of one of Winnipeg’s foremost realtors, Bukki Solanke. The event, which commemorated Solanke’s 60th birthday, brought together business professionals, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and immigrants, all united by a shared vision of empowerment and integration for newcomers to Canada.

Born on March 4, 1965, to Mr. Victor Kehinde Solanke and Mrs. Florence Olapeju Solanke, Bukki Solanke’s journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and unwavering passion. His early years were shaped by challenges that fueled his relentless drive for success.

His educational journey began at St. John’s Primary School, Iloro, Ilesa, before moving to Christ Apostolic Church Grammar School in Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State, where he excelled both academically and athletically as a lawn tennis champion. Driven by a thirst for knowledge, he obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Nigeria.

Bukki’s entrepreneurial spirit was evident early on. In 1996, he founded Christian Trends Magazine, and by 1999, he had transitioned into broadcasting, joining Radio Lagos/Eko FM as a radio DJ, newsreader, and on-air personality. It was during this time that he met his wife, Fadekemi (née Ogunlewe), a chartered accountant, and in 2001, they tied the knot. Together, they have three children: Babafewa, Ayomikun, and Temiloluwa.

Bukki’s journey was only just beginning. Leaving behind the security of a traditional job he launched his own independent production company specializing on radio programs and broadcast content creation. However, as life took its course, new opportunities called. In a bold move Bukki and his family relocated to London England where Bukki spent ten years working with Housing corporations mastering the art of property management. It was this time that his deep passion for Real Estate began to take shape. Never wanting to stop learning Bukki pursued professional designation in Project Management, Project Planning and Business Analysis. Beyond his career, he’s an adventurer at heart. A lover of music, dance and new ventures.

In 2015, Bukki and his family made yet another life changing decision to move to Canada, a bold and strategic step that has paid off. Armed with many years of experience in property management he joined the imperial properties, a top tier real estate management company in Manitoba. His exceptional customer service skills quickly set him apart earning him the Accredited Residential Manager ARM designation. Clients and tenants alike recognized him as a trusted professional but Bukki saw an even greater need, a gap in the real estate industry.

In 2017, he became one of the first licensed real estate agents of African descent in Manitoba determined to bridge the gap in representation. Since then, he has helped hundreds of families and individuals find homes, guiding them through one of the most significant moments of their lives, the day they receive the keys to their dream home. Bukki’s mission extends far beyond Real Estate. His heart beats for helping others. He finds joy in seeing people succeed, regardless of race, gender, language or background. This passion has now given birth to something even greater, the Bukki Solanke Foundation, a foundation dedicated to bridging the gap for new immigrants, helping them integrate and find opportunities in their new country, mentoring young adults, providing guidance, empowerment and a path to success. A foundation built on the principles of service, empowerment and hope. His passion for mentorship and community development gave birth to an initiative dedicated to supporting new immigrants, guiding them through integration, and connecting them to resources, mentorship, and career opportunities.

The launch event began with a red carpet reception and light refreshments, followed by opening remarks from MC Freeman and an opening prayer led by Pastor Charles Obadina. Attendees then watched a documentary highlighting Bukki Solanke’s biography, vision, and mission for BSF, providing insight into his journey from humble beginnings to a respected leader in real estate and community service.

A major highlight of the event was the panel discussion, moderated by Bunmi Praise (née Oduntan), featuring Pa Patrick Majekodunmi, a retired journalist and businessman who immigrated to Canada 50years ago, Kenny Daodu, a community leader and motivational speaker who immigrated to Canada 30years ago, Gode Katembo, President and founder of Canada African Cup of Nations which supports 32 African communities in Manitoba and Ontario and the founder and Chairman of Sports Without Boundaries , and Ann Nzereuem, a nurse practitioner with over 10years of experience and the founder and CEO of Mara Home and Health Services who immigrated to Canada 30years ago. Panelists shared how they built connections, integrated into Canadian society, and navigated challenges as immigrants. They also discussed key resources, mentorship programs, and networks that helped them succeed.

Their insights served as an invaluable roadmap for new immigrants, reinforcing the importance of resilience, mentorship, support systems, and community engagement.

As part of its commitment to youth empowerment, the BSF hosted an essay competition, coordinated by the Nigerians in Winnipeg WhatsApp group. Mrs. Fadekemi Solanke presented awards to the winners, Philip Adebayo and Nicole Loto.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and photo session, followed by music and networking. The launch of the Bukki Solanke Foundation marks the beginning of a new chapter in community support and immigrant empowerment in Winnipeg.

As Bukki Solanke continues his mission to uplift and inspire, his foundation stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity for newcomers, proving that with determination, vision, and a heart for others, anything is possible.
