The SOCAN Foundation has revealed the five winners of the 2024 SiriusXM Black Canadian Music Awards, each receiving a $10,000 prize. This year’s recipients are Bukola, Haleluya Hailu, Kalisway, Nia Nadurata, and Obediya Jones-Darrell, representing a wide range of genres from R&B and funk to indie-pop and composition.
Selected by a jury of Black Canadian musicians and industry experts, the winners hail from Vancouver and Toronto and will use their awards to further their music careers. The jury also named five “Ones to Watch,” who each receive $1,000: AfrotroniX, Kwazii, Seago, Laurie Torres, and iaamSaam.
SiriusXM Canada’s Michelle Mearns highlighted the awards’ role in fostering Black excellence in Canadian music. Jury chair Dena Williams emphasized the joy of witnessing the continued evolution of Black talent across the country.
