Beyoncé launched her highly anticipated Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin’ Circuit tour on Monday, delivering an electrifying nearly three-hour performance at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Los Angeles. The concert, which was a celebration of Southern Black culture, freedom of expression, and Beyoncé’s family, showcased her immense talent and versatility.
The 35-song setlist spanned Beyoncé’s illustrious career, from 2008’s “I Am… Sasha Fierce” to her latest album, “Cowboy Carter,” released in March 2024. Highlights of the evening included a powerful performance of “American Requiem” and a cover of The Beatles’ “Blackbird,” where Beyoncé paused to express her gratitude for the unwavering support of her fans.
Visuals on the giant LED screens included thought-provoking imagery, including a powerful message reading “Reclamation of America” and scenes of American flag-covered coffins with the text, “history can’t be erased.” Pyrotechnics lit up the stage during Beyoncé’s entrance, where she wore a fringed all-white bodysuit.
Family also took center stage as Beyoncé’s 13-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, joined her mom on stage to dance during “America Has a Problem,” and later, Beyoncé brought out her 7-year-old daughter, Rumi, for a touching performance of “Protector.”
The concert featured grandiose moments, with Beyoncé served whiskey by a robot, performing on a mechanical bull, and flying through the air suspended on a giant horseshoe. She even sang “Tyrant” on a piano that was set ablaze, before closing the show with a powerful rendition of “16 Carriages” and “Amen.”
The concert was attended by several celebrities, including Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, and Gayle King. Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” album, which has broken records on the Billboard charts, features collaborations with Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Dolly Parton, and Willie Nelson, and won a Grammy for album of the year in January.
Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour will continue with a performance in Chicago on May 15, following her run in Los Angeles.
