Babyganics Recalls Kids’ Sunscreen Due to Solvent Contamination Concerns

Health Canada Issues Advisory on Affected Products

Ottawa, Canada – SC Johnson & Son, Inc. has initiated a recall of specific batches of its Kids by Babyganics SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen Totally Tropical, available in both rollerball and continuous spray formats. This action follows the detection of monoglyme (1,2-dimethoxyethane), a solvent found in concentrations exceeding permissible limits, which may pose health risks.

Health Implications of Monoglyme Exposure

Monoglyme is a solvent that can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled. Frequent exposure over large areas of the body or inhalation may lead to adverse effects, including potential harm to fetal development and reproductive health. While the likelihood of such health consequences is low, they cannot be entirely dismissed.
