Arizona is rolling out new and exciting offerings for Canadian travel advisors, with updates that include major hotel openings, thrilling new attractions, and commissionable incentives to support the Canadian travel market.
In a recent interview with Lisa Urias, Executive Director for the Arizona Office of Tourism, travel advisors learned about some of the most anticipated additions in the state. “This year has seen the debut of several new hotels,” Urias shared, noting the launch of four major properties. Among them, VAI Resort in Glendale stands out as an entertainment hub featuring 13 restaurants, 10 bars, and a sprawling six-acre swimming pool. Additionally, the Ritz-Carlton Paradise Valley provides luxurious accommodations and spa experiences with stunning views of Camelback Mountain. Another notable opening is Caesars Republic Scottsdale, marking the brand’s first non-gaming hotel in the U.S. And for those seeking a resort experience, Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort & Spa, following a $115 million renovation, has debuted with 496 updated rooms and six exquisite dining options.
For those seeking new attractions, Cannon Beach Surf Park is set to open this month in Mesa. This innovative 2.2-acre surfing lagoon promises an exciting wave experience. Flagstaff will soon house the Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation Astronomy Discovery Center at Lowell Observatory, opening on November 16. This interactive space will engage visitors in the universe’s origins and offer experiences including an outdoor planetarium. Looking ahead, Mattel Adventure Park will bring iconic brands like Barbie and Hot Wheels to life with cutting-edge hologram technology in 2025. Additionally, the Route 66 Centennial in 2026 will celebrate the iconic route with events and festivals, spotlighting Arizona’s well-preserved segments.
Urias also emphasized upcoming commissionable opportunities for Canadian travel advisors. “We’re launching two major incentive programs this winter that will not only offer commissions and incentives but also provide deeper insights into Arizona’s evolving tourism offerings,” she noted. These programs aim to help travel agents stay updated on the latest trends and experiences, ensuring they can offer the best recommendations to their clients.
With growing interest from Canadian travelers, bookings for 2024 and beyond are trending positively, particularly among snowbirds seeking refuge from colder climates. Arizona’s mild winters, affordable living, and abundant golf courses attract visitors from provinces like B.C. and Alberta. Additionally, Arizona’s outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, and visits to natural wonders like the Grand Canyon and Sedona, continue to captivate Canadian adventurers. The state is also drawing a significant number of luxury and wellness tourists, thanks to its premium resorts, spas, and wellness retreats.
As part of its strategy to engage the Canadian market, Arizona is ramping up efforts to connect with travel advisors. Through annual trade missions, FAM trips, and informative webinars, the Arizona Office of Tourism ensures that Canadian agents are well-informed and equipped to sell Arizona as a top-tier destination.
