Jason Sudeikis is set to return for a fourth season of Ted Lasso, taking his character to a new challenge—coaching a women’s team.
The show’s star and executive producer confirmed on the New Heights podcast that Season 4 is currently being written. Apple TV+ later announced the show’s return in a press release.
“Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”
The official Ted Lasso X account also broke its silence after nearly 18 months, posting early Friday morning: “Finally found the dang password to this thing. Sorry y’all. What’d I miss?”
The acclaimed comedy-drama follows Ted Lasso, an American college football coach hired to lead fictional English Premier League club AFC Richmond. Despite his lack of experience in soccer, his optimistic leadership has won over fans worldwide.
Sudeikis hinted at the theme of the upcoming season, stating, “We all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap.’ In season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”
Originally developed by Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Joe Kelly, and Brendan Hunt, Ted Lasso debuted in 2020 and quickly became an Emmy-winning sensation, breaking records as the most Emmy-nominated comedy in its first season.
Apple also revealed that Jack Burditt (Nobody Wants This, Modern Family, 30 Rock) will join as an executive producer for Season 4.
