American Airlines is breaking new ground with its first-ever daily service to Columbus, Mississippi, launching on May 5. The route will link Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) with the Golden Triangle Regional Airport (GTR), expanding the airline’s presence in underserved regions.
Operated by American Eagle partner SkyWest Airlines, the flights will use 65-seat CRJ-700 regional jets, offering nine first-class seats, 12 Main Cabin Extra seats, and 44 economy seats. This move is part of American’s strategy to enhance its hub-and-spoke network, connecting smaller and mid-sized cities to major hubs.
Golden Triangle Regional Airport serves Columbus, Starkville, and West Point, with Starkville home to Mississippi State University, a key regional destination. Delta Air Lines has long dominated the Golden Triangle, providing flights from GTR to its Atlanta hub, but American’s entry introduces competition and greater connectivity for travelers.
