Amber Aviation Expands Fractional Jet Leasing in China with More NetJets G450s

Amber Aviation is expanding its fractional business jet leasing program in China, adding more former NetJets Gulfstream G450s to its charter management fleet. One of these aircraft was showcased at the Business Aviation Asia Forum & Exhibition in Singapore.

NetJets, an investor in Amber Aviation, leases the G450s for the AmberNet fractional lease program, offering customers 25 to 50 flight-hour blocks. Chairman and President Jeff Chang emphasized the importance of partnering with a Chinese company for market expansion, regulatory compliance, and smoother relationships with authorities.

China has a regulatory framework for fractional ownership, but Amber Aviation is initially focusing on fractional leasing. Chang noted that the concept is still new in the region, and buyers need time to understand the benefits of shared ownership. Many potential customers still prefer full ownership, often for prestige rather than practical business use.

Amber Aviation, headquartered in Shenzhen, manages 23 aircraft, with seven enrolled in the AmberNet program. Five of these are refurbished former NetJets G450s, alongside a G550 and a Bombardier Global 5000. The fleet operates across Asia, catering to fractional lease clients, charter customers, and managed aircraft owners, with occasional flights to the U.S. and Europe.

The company is targeting growth in Southeast Asia, a key region for high-net-worth individuals. While Amber Aviation operates independently, NetJets’ influence ensures adherence to high safety standards. Fractional lease customers benefit from guaranteed availability and no repositioning charges, distinguishing the model from traditional charter services.

With fractional leasing gaining traction, Chang believes the concept will soon take off as more customers recognize the advantages of a shared economy in private aviation.
