Alphonso Davies May Undergo MRI After Early Exit in Canada’s Win Over U.S.

Canada captain Alphonso Davies could be set for an MRI after leaving Sunday’s 2-1 victory over the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League third-place match just 12 minutes in, favoring his knee.

Despite concerns, Canada head coach Jesse Marsch remains optimistic about the Bayern Munich star’s condition. “I think he’ll be OK,” Marsch said Monday, noting that Davies may have been spooked by the way his knee moved during the incident.

Davies had been a game-time fitness decision due to a minor injury, and if Toronto FC’s Richie Laryea had been available, he likely would have started in Davies’ place. Instead, Niko Sigur came on as a substitute, moving to right back while Alistair Johnston shifted to the left to cover Davies’ position.

The 24-year-old Davies was making his 58th appearance for Canada before the early substitution.
