Aimee Lou Wood, the acclaimed “White Lotus” actress known for her standout role as Chelsea, is pushing back against the intense focus on her appearance—particularly her gap-tooth smile and overbite. In a candid interview with British GQ, the 31-year-old British star shared her discomfort over the persistent attention, saying it often overshadows her work.
“It makes me really happy that it’s symbolizing rebellion and freedom, but there’s a limit,” Wood said, noting that endless commentary about her teeth makes her feel like there’s something “goofy” she hasn’t “fixed.”
The actress questioned whether a male counterpart would receive the same scrutiny, adding, “I don’t know if it was a man would we be talking about it this much?”
Despite being celebrated for her authenticity, Wood admitted to feeling self-conscious during filming, especially after hearing that creator Mike White fought to cast her over HBO’s preferences. “My little head goes: ‘HBO didn’t want me. And I know why… it’s because I’m ugly,’” she said.
One lighthearted yet revealing moment came when a cameraman praised her “weird run” in a beach scene—only for Wood to clarify, “That’s my run.”
Wood’s reflections highlight a broader conversation about beauty standards in Hollywood and the challenges women face in being recognized for their talent rather than their looks.
