The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and members of the Asue-Ogie Mandate Recovery Group have urged INEC to declare the party’s candidate in the September 21 Governorship election, Dr Asue Ighodalo as the authentic winner of the Governorship election.
Some party chieftains and supporters said this during a protest at the INEC Headquarters in Aduwawa, Benin City.
The protest disrupted vehicular movement for several hours at the Ramat Park axis of the Benin- Auchi expressway way as hundreds of the protesters who displayed different placards demanded the reversal of the result of the September 21 gubernatorial election which they claimed was won by Asue Ighodalo.
Addressing the protesters, Edo State PDP Chairman, Dr. Tony Azegbemi recalled the incident that led to the Collation Of the LGA results where PDP agents were shut out from the Collation process insisting that the PDP must explore every legitimate means to recover its mandate.
DG, Asue-Ogie Campaign Council Matthew Iduoriyekemwen said the peaceful agitations will continue until the mandate of Asue Ighodalo is restored.
He also alleged that plans are on to rewrite the results declared on September 22 in Egor Oredo, Etsako and others where results were allegedly manipulated.
For his part, the Deputy Director General Asue Ogie Campaign Organisation, Olu Martins said the protest will continue until Dr Asue Ighodalo is declared winner of the September 21 gubernatorial election.
The protesters appealed to the judiciary to stand up against the alleged injustice by ensuring that the result of the September 21 gubernatorial election uploaded on the INEC IREV portal is declared.
