The Adamawa Concerned Women in Politics (ACWP) has taken its advocacy for greater female representation in politics to the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
During a visit on Friday, the group met with Hon. Kate Mamuno, the majority leader and only female member of the assembly, to seek her support in advancing gender-sensitive policies.

Led by its president, Zainab Abubakar, ACWP highlighted its commitment to breaking barriers that hinder women’s full participation in governance. Abubakar praised Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his inclusive leadership and requested an advocacy visit to relevant assembly committees. The group also plans to meet with the governor to express gratitude for his support and seek further backing for their initiatives.

Hon. Mamuno welcomed the delegation, emphasizing that despite the support from her male colleagues, being the sole female representative has limited her ability to address gender-specific issues. She urged women to get involved in politics, promising to continue supporting their cause. Mamuno also hinted at the possibility of introducing a gender equality bill in the assembly.

The meeting concluded with Mamuno being appointed as the new Patron of ACWP, while Aminu Adamu, the project coordinator of Garga Foundation, praised her leadership and ongoing support for women’s political participation.
