Russia Launches Devastating Missile and Drone Assault on Kyiv, Killing 15 and Injuring Dozens

In one of the deadliest attacks on Ukraine’s capital this year, Russia launched over 440 drones and 32 missiles on Tuesday, striking 27 locations in Kyiv and other regions, killing at least 15 people and injuring nearly 100. A missile obliterated an entire section of a nine-storey residential building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, flattening it into rubble.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the assault as among the “most horrific” seen in Kyiv during the war. Emergency workers pulled bodies and wounded civilians—including an elderly woman rescued by crane—from the wreckage. Victims included a 62-year-old U.S. citizen who died from shrapnel wounds.

The overnight onslaught damaged homes, educational institutions, and critical infrastructure, forcing civilians into underground shelters. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed 14 deaths in Kyiv and one in Odesa. Officials also reported injuries in Chernihiv.

While attending the G7 summit in Canada, Zelenskyy urged tighter sanctions on Moscow and continued military aid. However, President Donald Trump, who has distanced the U.S. from supporting Kyiv, called for Russia’s readmission to the G7 and proposed Putin as a mediator in the Israel-Iran crisis.

Despite Ukraine launching retaliatory drone strikes into Russian territory, Moscow claimed its defences downed 147 Ukrainian drones overnight.

As Russia’s war enters its fourth year, fighting intensifies in the east and in Sumy, even as diplomatic efforts remain stalled following failed peace talks in Istanbul.
