NBC is set to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1975 classic Jaws with a three-hour telecast on Friday, June 20 at 8 p.m. ET, featuring a special introduction by director Steven Spielberg. The broadcast marks a major celebration of the iconic summer blockbuster that sparked a global fascination with sharks.
Universal Pictures is going all in on the anniversary, making Jaws the centerpiece of a broader media push across its platforms. Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, will host Jaws exclusively through July 14 and launch a curated “Jaws” collection. This will include all four films from the franchise and a brand-new documentary titled Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story.
The legacy of Jaws, starring Roy Scheider, continues to loom large in pop culture, predating modern shark phenomena like Sharknado, Land Shark, and Baby Shark. NBCUniversal’s marketing chief Jenny Storms noted, “Universal is home to the biggest movies in the world and it doesn’t get any bigger than ‘Jaws.’”
This summer, prepare for the beaches to clear once again.
