The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms and rainfall across various regions of Nigeria from Sunday through Tuesday.
On Sunday morning, NiMet expects thunderstorms and moderate rains in parts of Taraba and Adamawa in the northern region. Thunderstorms with rain are also anticipated later in the day over Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, and Bauchi States.
In the North-Central region, cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and rain over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau States in the afternoon and evening.
Southern Nigeria will experience cloudy mornings, with rain showers expected in Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Edo, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa States later in the day.
Monday’s forecast includes morning thunderstorms in northern states such as Sokoto, Zamfara, and Bauchi. Thunderstorms with rain will continue throughout the day in Sokoto, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, Bauchi, and Kaduna States.
North-Central Nigeria will see morning thunderstorms over the FCT, Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa, followed by thunderstorms in Plateau, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, and Benue States later in the day.
In the south, morning rains are expected in Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, with rain showers extending across much of the region throughout the day.
Tuesday’s outlook calls for isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains in Zamfara and Kaduna States during the morning, followed by thunderstorms with rains in Taraba, Kaduna, Adamawa, Zamfara, Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, and Borno States in the afternoon and evening.
The North-Central region will experience thunderstorms and rains in Niger, Plateau, and Benue States in the morning, extending to the FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Niger, Kwara, and Plateau States later in the day.
Southern Nigeria will see morning rains in Lagos and Bayelsa, with widespread rains across the entire region during the day.
NiMet has urged the public to take necessary precautions, warning that strong winds may precede thunderstorms. The agency advised securing loose objects, avoiding driving in heavy rain, disconnecting electrical appliances, and staying clear of tall trees to prevent injury from falling branches.
Airline operators have been advised to consult NiMet for airport-specific weather updates to aid flight planning.
