President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently hosted the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos State. The traditional ruler commended the president’s efforts to elevate Nigeria’s global standing and expressed strong support for the government’s new forest guard security initiative.
Speaking after their closed-door meeting, Oba Ogunwusi said his visit was primarily to mark the Sallah break with the president and provide a personal update on his recent trip to Kazakhstan. He praised Tinubu’s initiatives that have opened Nigeria to international partnerships.
“I’m here to greet Mr. President for the Salah break and also to appreciate all the great things he’s doing for our dear country,” the Ooni said. “I went to a country called Kazakhstan and came back with feedback. The good things he’s doing are opening Nigeria up to so many nations that now want to work with us.”
The monarch highlighted improvements in Nigeria’s macroeconomic stability and foreign investment environment under Tinubu’s leadership. He pointed out that “there is no arbitrage again” between the central bank and parallel market, signaling increased investor confidence.
Oba Ogunwusi also underscored the vital role of traditional rulers in nation-building. “We traditional rulers should lead by example, work in tandem with the government, and give hope to our youth. This is another testimony of hope for Nigerian youth,” he added.
Regarding security, the Ooni expressed optimism about the restructuring of the Forest Guard system, describing it as a key measure for lasting peace and strengthening investor confidence. He further praised the president’s commitment to economic reforms and grassroots security enhancements amid Nigeria’s ongoing challenges.
