German defence company Helsing, specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) applications, announced on Wednesday it will take over Bavarian aircraft manufacturer Grob Aircraft. The Munich-based firm confirmed the signing of an acquisition agreement aimed at jointly developing next-generation aerial warfare capabilities.
Helsing highlighted that combining Grob Aircraft’s expertise in composite aircraft manufacturing with Helsing’s AI and software technologies will unlock significant innovation and growth potential. Grob Aircraft, headquartered in Tussenhausen near Munich, employs 275 people with extensive experience in military and civil aviation and global flight training programs.
Known for its composite aircraft technology, Grob provides lightweight, durable, and aerodynamic platforms ideal for integrating Helsing’s AI solutions. Grob Aircraft is a trusted partner in flight training worldwide with a long history in military and general aviation.
Helsing gained recognition for producing the HX-2 kamikaze drone, actively used by Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s full-scale invasion. In May, Helsing also introduced an underwater drone designed to protect ships and critical infrastructure, showcasing its expanding capabilities in defense technology.
