The Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners has approved the $600.6 million construction of Concourse K at Miami International Airport (MIA), part of the $9 billion Future-Ready Modernization in Action plan. This transformative expansion marks MIA’s first terminal growth since 2007 and supports its goal of serving 77 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo by 2040.
Concourse K will feature six new gates, a jet fuel hydrant system, an aircraft apron, a ground support equipment maintenance facility, two new baggage carousels, and connectivity upgrades to the Central and South Terminals. The project also aims for LEED Silver certification.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava emphasized the project’s impact on increasing capacity, creating jobs, and reinforcing MIA’s status as a global gateway. With nearly 56 million passengers and over 3 million tons of freight handled in 2024, the need for expansion is critical.
Construction begins this summer, with completion expected by Spring 2029. Lemartec-NV2A Joint Venture, LLC is the general contractor, and Perez & Perez Architects Planners, Inc. is the lead architect.
