A Sandy Bay First Nation man and another individual have been found dead nearly a week after their boat suffered a malfunction on Lake Manitoba. The two men, aged 22 and 41, launched their boat on May 8 from behind the water plant near Sandy Bay, about 130 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
High winds prevented the local fire department from launching a rescue boat. The body of the 22-year-old was found washed ashore on May 9, while the 41-year-old’s body was recovered from the lake on Wednesday, according to Manitoba RCMP.
Both men were last seen about 200 metres from shore near Halls Beach and were not wearing life jackets. Central Plains RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
