A cyclonic circulation over parts of Pakistan and Rajasthan has triggered unseasonal rain across Gujarat, causing deadly weather conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department, the state will continue to experience rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds until Thursday. So far, 14 people have been confirmed dead and 16 injured, local officials reported to Reuters.
Gujarat, a major agricultural hub known for producing cotton, cumin, and rice, may face significant crop losses. Anju Sharma, secretary of the state’s agriculture department, stated that district administrations are assessing damage and will submit their reports soon.
This follows last month’s deadly weather across eastern and central India and Nepal, which claimed over 100 lives, raising concerns over climate unpredictability and its impact on agriculture and rural livelihoods.
