Nova Scotia’s Beloved Meteorologist Peter Coade Dies at 82, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Comfort and Expertise

Peter Coade, the beloved Nova Scotia meteorologist who spent over five decades delivering weather updates to Maritimers, passed away early Saturday at the age of 82. Known for his comforting presence on television and radio, Coade was a passionate weather expert who retired from CBC in 2016 after a distinguished career that earned him the Guinness World Record for the longest career as a weather forecaster at the time.

Coade, who had been battling dementia, was hospitalized since November. His down-to-earth demeanor and warm voice made him a trusted figure for the public, especially during severe weather events like Hurricane Juan and the massive snowstorm White Juan. He was remembered for his ability to calm the public during times of crisis and provide reliable weather updates.

Throughout his career, Coade made significant contributions to weather forecasting, from his early days job-shadowing at CBC to his work with radio stations and the Canadian International Air Show. His legacy lives on through the respect and admiration of both colleagues and the communities he served.
