Manitoba Lawyer Fined for Failing to Respond to Regulatory Body

Manitoba lawyer Dave Boyechko has been fined after pleading guilty to professional misconduct for failing to respond to the Law Society of Manitoba during three investigations. According to an April 10 disciplinary panel decision, Boyechko did not meet the mandatory requirement to respond in writing within two weeks of being notified about the probes.

Boyechko, a member of the law society since 1989, represented himself during the hearing and expressed genuine remorse. He cited overlapping business and health challenges, including two serious medical events, as reasons for his lack of response. The panel acknowledged his accountability and noted that he has taken steps to streamline his legal practice.

A joint recommendation led to Boyechko being fined $1,500 and ordered to pay $2,000 in costs. This is not his first disciplinary action; in 2013, he was fined $5,000 and suspended for a month after admitting to misconduct involving a client.
