Canadian pop is making a powerful impact on the radio charts this week, led by the dynamic collaboration between Shawn Desman and Jamie Fine. Their dance-pop track “Body” debuts at No. 26 on the CHR/Top 40 chart and No. 34 on Hot AC for the week of April 12, a strong showing that highlights the track’s radio potential.
“Body” is an upbeat ode to infatuation and marks another step in Desman’s music comeback. The Toronto singer, known for his early 2000s R&B hits, was encouraged to return to music after Drake invited him to perform at the 2022 OVO Fest. That momentum carried into 2022’s “Maniac,” which charted on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. His new partner on “Body,” Jamie Fine, continues her breakout run after her 2023 hit “If Anything’s Left” and 2024 airplay success with “you’re like.”
Desman is also set to headline Toronto’s CNE Bandshell Stage on August 15, keeping the comeback energy going into summer.
Other notable Canadian chart activity includes Jess Moskaluke’s “Life For Me” debuting at No. 40 on the All-Format chart, while Dallas Smith’s “CRZY” climbs to No. 6 on the Canada Country chart. Mainstream Rock sees Toronto’s Live Animals and Kitchener’s Feral Minks enter with “This Ether” and “Matador,” respectively. The Beaches debut on Modern Rock at No. 35 with “Last Girls at the Party,” while Halifax duo Pillow Fite re-enter with “A Friend.”
At the top of the charts, Gracie Abrams hits No. 1 on the All-Format with “That’s So True,” Blake Shelton leads Canada Country with “Texas,” and Mumford and Sons top Modern Rock with “Rushmere.”
