After a year marked by recovery, milestones, and unmatched determination, Natalie Spooner is back to help Canada defend its world title. The reigning PWHL MVP missed the early season recovering from ACL surgery, but she timed her return to align with Canada’s push for another championship in the Czech Republic.
Now in her 11th world championship, Spooner’s journey includes a return to elite form after giving birth, dominating the inaugural PWHL season, and being named IIHF Female Player of the Year. With Toronto Sceptres’ GM praising her elite athleticism, Spooner’s presence in front of the net will once again be a force.
She’s also embracing a leadership role among five first-time Team Canada players, passing on advice once given by Hayley Wickenheiser: “Play your game.” Spooner sees big things ahead for young standouts like Chloe Primerano and Daryl Watts.
Canada opens against Finland Thursday, followed by matchups with Switzerland, the U.S., and host Czech Republic. With Spooner back in form, Canada eyes a third world title in four years, as all eyes turn to České Budějovice.
