Lasha Shavdatuashvili Shines on Day Two of Tbilisi Grand Slam Amid Thrilling Judo Action

The second day of the Tbilisi Grand Slam thrilled fans with world-class judo and unforgettable victories, headlined by Georgian Olympic legend Lasha Shavdatuashvili. Competing in the -73kg division, Shavdatuashvili ignited the home crowd with a gold medal win, delivering Georgia’s first men’s gold of the tournament and proving once again why he’s a national hero.

In the -63kg category, Canada’s Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard made a triumphant return to competition, securing gold against France’s Deketer in her first tournament since the Olympics. France’s Ambassador to Georgia, H.E. Sheraz Gasri, presented the medals.

Hungary’s Szofi Ozbas impressed at -70kg, defeating Olympic medallist Sanne Van Dijke to clinch gold after moving up from the -63kg division. She was awarded her medal by the Georgian Judo Federation President Mr. Levan Nozadze.

Turkey’s Vedat Albayrak also took gold in the -81kg category with a determined performance, scoring a decisive waza-ari after initially falling behind. Georgia State Security Service Deputy Head Mr. Shengeli Pitskhelauri awarded the medals.

Tbilisi continues to deliver top-tier judo and electrifying crowd energy, with the home team adding bronze medals to their tally in dramatic fashion. With heavyweights set to compete tomorrow, the excitement in Georgia’s capital is far from over.
